Wes Anderson is known for his quirky tales, and this one is one of our favorites. When 12-year-old Sam Shakusky runs away from Camp Ivanhoe to meet up with his pen pal Suzy Bishop, the two embark on a rollicking coming-of-age journey as they’re pursued by Suzy’s parents, scouts, and the island’s police force. Complete with an original score by Alexandre Desplat, this dreamy summer flick will make you smile and reminisce over young love.
This early film by writer and director Richard Linklater (Before Sunrise, Before Sunset, Before Midnight, Boyhood) is the ultimate ode to the energy and attitude of the late 70s. With all the action of the film taking place in an small Texas town on the last day of school, you’ll be floored by the ensemble cast made up of some very familiar faces including Jason London, Ben Affleck, Milla Jovovich, Parker Posey, Adam Goldberg, Joey Lauren Adams, and Matthew McConaughey. Alright, alright, alrighttt!
Starring Jonah Hill and Michael Cera as two teens on the precipice of high school graduation, Superbad takes viewers on a wild ride. Written by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg (Pineapple Express, This Is The End) these two real life childhood friends started working on the script when they were just 13! The film is loosely based on their own experiences growing up in Vancouver during the 90s, and there’s a certain authenticity there that’s not to be missed.
