One of the freshest initiatives we’ve been working on this year is our AT&T Hello Lab Mentorship Program, which gives a much needed platform to young filmmakers from underrepresented backgrounds. We’ve paired entertainment industry leaders and heavyweights, like Octavia Spencer and Common, with aspiring filmmakers, so they have the support they need to take their visions to the next level.
Here’s a selection of some of the incredible, diverse talent in this year’s roster:
Candid by Gabriella Shepard
Faced with the memory of her late mother, an aspiring street photographer takes a surreal journey through the city as she reconciles her future and her relationship with her father.
Yoshua by Matthew Castellanos
A group of outcast teens must flee their hometown of South Central to protect their big blue alien friend from a ban against its kind.
Tooth and Nail by Sara Shaw
After their youngest child is diagnosed with terminal cancer, an estranged family reunites and struggles to overcome their dysfunction.
The Last Two Lovers At The End of the World by Nefertite Nguvu
A future-set, New Year’s Eve wild night’s journey that follows two hip, young lovers as they try to outsmart the end of the world.
The Lost by Neil Paik
Events surrounding a highly publicized protest altercation are played out from three different points of view.
