When it comes to sports, one of the few things fans love more than spectating is speculating.
There are those who like to imagine a scenario where former Seahawks running back, Marshawn Lynch, is allowed to run the ball in Super Bowl 49. FOR GOODNESS SAKES, THEY WERE ON THE ONE-YARD LINE! Another big debate is whether or not current NBA superstar, LeBron James, will be able to surpass the legacy of basketball legend, Michael Jordan. Some say yes, some demand a ring count.
And in recent years, among combat sports fans, the conversations have included talk of a fantasy match-up between retired boxing great, Floyd “Money” Mayweather, and current MMA sensation Conor “Notorious” McGregor. The debate has raged on social media, on TV, and in the press. Where would they fight? Who’s stronger? Who’s faster? Who has more endurance?
Some picked McGregor because of his youthful tenacity and endurance. Some picked Mayweather, based on his experience and speed. But deep down, no one really believed a fight between the two would ever happen. It was simply another sports “what if” to be discussed at barbershops, bars, and barbecues.
But then, both the Mayweather and McGregor camps announced that they were working on a deal. Later, both men confirmed the match, and a few months ago the date, time, and fight venue were announced. And just like that, the world learned that the seemingly unlikely, if not highly improbable, would be taking place. Floyd Mayweather will fight Conor McGregor. The speculation has become reality.
